Accomplishments
- Actively involved with the Multilingual Coalition's efforts in Boston that successfully challenged the lack of oversight, accountability, and bilingual services at the pollign place to ensure equal access for immigrant voters.
- Helped establish the Coalition for the Education of the Whole Child.
- Part of the successful organizing efforts to amend Question 2 to allow for Two Way Bilingual Education Programs.
- Helped communities to successfully challenge whittier Street Health Center's English Only policies.
- Helped coordinate the work of the English Language Learners (ELL) Subcommitee in the collection of data and subsequent draft report realted to the status of ELLs in the Boston Public Schools for the Citizen Commission on Education.
- Actively involved with the successful coalition effort to defeat the Board of Education proposal to raise the minimum passing score for MCAS, the flawed and punitive high-stakes testing system in Massachusetts.
- Helped communities to successfully challenge discriminatory and arbitrary "English fluency" tests that led to the firing of Cambodian teachers in Lowell, one with an advanced degree from Harvard School of Education.
